  • Discussion

Huperzia orizabae Underw. & F. E. Lloyd, Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 33: 110. 1906. Urostachys orizabae (Underw. & F. E. Lloyd) Herter ex Nessel, Ba¨rlappgewa ¨chse 175. 1939. Type. Mexico. Veracruz: Orizaba, Sierra de Agua, Mu¨ller 690 (NY!; isotypes BR, P, US!).

Leaf shape in Huperzia orizabae is like that of H. linifolia, but the stems are much thicker (2–3.5 mm) and widely branching (spreading). It is related to Huperzia bradeorum Christ of Guatemala to Ecuador, which is an erect epiphyte and appears to have smaller leaves (less than 1 cm) at the base of the plants.

  • Distribution

Epiphytic in wet montane forests of Atlantic slope; 1300–2200 m. Mexico; Guat, Hond, Salv.
