Discussion
Further botanical exploration has not changed the taxonomy of the genus. For all species known, the ranges of distribution have become more extensive. The most prominent range extensions are found in Helicostylis tomentosa (to the Pacific Coastal region and Panama) and H. pedunculata (to Bahia).
