    Species Description - Tree, to 10(-15) cm tall. Leafy twigs 3-7 mm thick, glabrous. Lamina elliptic to obovate to oblong, 6-25 × 3-11 cm; apex acuminate; base acute to rounded; margin entire; both surfaces (sub)glabrous; lateral veins 510 pairs; tertiary venation scalariform; petiole 1-2.5 cm long; stipules 1.5-8 cm long, appressed-puberulous to glabrous. Inflorescences mostly on branchlets on the older wood (mostly trunk and main branches). Staminate inflorescences clavate, 2.5-10 × 0.7-2.5 cm; peduncle 1.5-5 cm long. Pistillate inflorescences ellipsoid to obovoid to oblongoid, 5-10 × 3-6 cm, covered with conical processes; peduncle 5-10 cm long, broadened at the apex; stigma 1-2 mm long. Infructescences 30-60(-100) × 25-40(-50) cm.

    Introduced from India, as a fruit tree in cultivation throughout the tropics; both the form with firm fruiting perianths and that with soft ones are in cultivation.
