    Species Description - Tree; young shoots closely sericeous with rufous-brown indumentum becoming glabrous, pale greyish or straw-coloured, smooth, lenticellate. Leaves 9.5-20(-32) × 4.4-7.8(-15) cm, lanceolate, elliptic or oblanceolate, apex obtuse to shortly narrowly attenuate or cuspidate, base narrowly attenuate to obtuse or rounded, glabrous above, lower surface persistently closely sericeous with rufous-brown indumentum; venation brochidodromous or eucamptodromous-brochidodromous, marginal vein sometimes present, midrib sunken on the upper surface, secondary veins 11-22 pairs, parallel or slightly convergent, arcuate or straight; intersecondaries obscure, short or long; tertiaries parallel to the secondaries and descending from the margin, but obscured by the indumentum. Petiole 0.8-1.7 cm long, channelled, sericeous. Fascicles 4-10-flowered. Pedicel 0.9-2.0 cm long, sericeous. Flowers bisexual. Sepals five, 2-2.5 mm long, ovate, apex acute or obtuse, shortly sericeous outside, some appressed hairs around the apex inside. Corolla 3-4 mm long, tube broad, widened at the throat, equalling or slightly longer than the lobes, lobes five, ovate to oblong, apex obtuse to rounded, glabrous or sparsely sericeous on the outside of the tube. Stamens five, fixed one-third to one-half the way up the corolla tube; filaments 0.5-1 mm long, glabrous; anthers 0.75-1 mm long, ovate or lanceolate, usually bearing a few long crisped hairs. Ovary conical, tapering gradually to the style, sometimes swollen at the base, five-locular, appressed pubescent; style 1-1.5 mm long after anthesis, equalling or slightly shorter than the corolla, glabrous above, style-head simple. Fruit ca. 5 × 1.2 cm, narrowly ellipsoid-lanceolate, with a long tapering apex and broadly tapered base, smooth, sparsely and minutely appressed puberulous; pericarp fleshy. Seed solitary, ca. 2 × 0.5 × 0.5 cm, narrowly ellipsoid, not laterally compressed, testa smooth, shiny, 0.3-0.4 mm thick; scar basi-ventral, ca. 8 × 3.5 mm, narrowly cordate; embryo with thick flat cotyledons and long exserted radicle, endosperm about equalling the thickness of the cotyledons. Field characters. Tree to 22 m high and 25 cm diam. with scaling bark containing white latex. Flowers greenish. Flowering Jan to Apr and Aug to Sep, fruiting Aug to Nov.
