    Species Description - Shrub or small tree; young growth finely appressed puberulous at first, becoming glabrous, pale greyish-buff, scaling and fissured, lenticellate. Stipules 1.5-2.5 mm long, broadly lanceolate, subglabrous. Leaves 4-17 × 3.1-6.4 cm, elliptic to oblanceolate, apex acute to rounded and sometimes emarginate, base acute to obtuse, glabrous or lower surface often with closely appressed whitish indumentum forming a pellicle; coriaceous; midrib sunken on the upper surface, secondary veins 15-18 pairs, higher order venation reticulate or areolate. Petiole 0.6-2.7 cm long, slightly channelled, subglabrous. Flowers solitary or paired. Pedicel 1.5-3 cm long (to 4.5 cm long in fruit) strongly reflexed in bud, appressed scurfy-puberulous. Sepals 0.8-1 cm long, oblong-lanceolate, acute to obtuse, slightly swollen at base and abruptly contracted into the pedicel, scurfy-puberulous outside, sparsely appressed puberulous inside. Corolla not carnose, glabrous, 0.9-1 cm long, tube 2-3 mm long; lobes six, divided to base into three segments; median segment broadly elliptic, apex acute or obtuse, lateral segments slightly shorter than the median segment, narrowly elliptic (much narrower than median segment). Stamens six, glabrous; filaments 2-2.5 mm long, anthers ca. 3.5 mm long, connective slightly produced, lanceolate. Staminodes (6-8) ca. 2 mm long, narrowly lanceolate, entire. Ovary ovoid, 6-12-locular, finely appressed puberulous; style 0.9-1.4 cm long after anthesis, glabrous. Fruit 3.5-7 cm long, globose or depressed globose, rough-skinned and scaly. Seed not seen. Field characters. A shrub or small tree to 10 m high with whitish flowers. Flowering in Sep and Dec to Mar, mature fruit Dec to Feb.
