    Species Description - Glabrous shrubby treelet or tree, to 3 m tall; stem to 8 cm diam. Branchlets robust, dark red-brown when dry, subterete, striate lengthwise, densely foliate. Leaves ovate or ovate-oblong, sometimes so in the same specimen, apex very shortly and broadly attenuate or subacuminate, tip obtuse, base more or less rounded, slightly unequal, coriaceous, stiff, in general dull and greenish-yellowish on both surfaces, or more brownish beneath when dry, sparsely rather faintly tuberculate above only, sometimes very sparsely or not tuberculate at all, not properly wrinkled, laticifers markedly raised beneath in dry specimens as is the case in H. ovata and its allies, edge somewhat revolute, (5-)7-10 x 3-5(-6) cm, midrib plane above, strongly raised beneath, lateral nerves rather straight from the midrib and subparallel to each other in 10-12 pairs, with more irregular and less obvious ones between, slightly raised on both surfaces, or less so above, reticulation of veins and veinlets finely though distinctly prominent on both surfaces; petiole stoutish, more or less distinctly transversely rugulose, (3-)5(-7) x 2-2.5 mm. Flowers numerous from small axillary multibracteolate cushions; pedicels ca. 2 mm long. Calyx deeply 5-lobed, lobes triangular, minutely gland-apiculate, papillate-ciliolate, 1.5 mm long. Petals ovate-lanceolate, greenish to cream, hairy inside, sparsely papillate dorsally and papillate-ciliolate along edge, 2 mm long. Stamens 10. Ovary ovoid, base thickened and 10-sulcate. Drupe (Glaziou 15201) oblongoid, color unknown, ca. 8 x 5 mm. Fruit-calyx thick-membranaceous, deeply 5-lobed, expanded ca. 2.5 cm diam., red, lobes ovate, remaining erect, plicate, including the drupe.
